HEARTS ON FIRE IS A NAVHDA REGISTERED KENNEL.  WE ARE A SMALL KENNEL WHOSE FOCUS IS ON DUAL PERFORMANCE GERMAN SHORTHAIRS.  WE BREED AND MAKE MATCHES BASED ON PROVEN LINEAGES WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF NATURAL ABILITY, INTELLIGENCE, PREY DRIVE AS WELL AS CONFORMATION, BUT STILL ARE CALM AND CONGENIAL FAMILY MEMBERS.  WE ARE HUNTERS THAT ENJOY HUNTING OVER THESE STELLAR DOGS. THIS GIVES US MORE FUN IN THE FIELD AS WELL AS MORE GAME. BELIEVING IN THE PHILOSOPHY THAT A DOG'S FORM = THEIR FUNCTION, WE ACTIVELY TEST OUR DOGS IN THE NAVHDA AND AKC SYSTEMS. OUR DOGS' GENETICS ARE IMPORTANT AND WE ARE VERY PROUD THAT ALL OUR SIRES AND DAMS HAVE BEEN TESTED AND ALL HAVE OFA GOOD/EXCELLENT HIPS AND NORMAL ELBOWS.  WE ALSO TEST EYES AND CARDIAC THROUGH OFA, CERF FOLLOWING THE BREED'S MOTHER CLUB'S RECOMMENDATIONS.

GUNTHER, aka FREIGHTTRAIN

NA 112 Pz 1, UT 204 Pz 1, JH

I can not say enough about this amazing boy.  He was my hunt buddy, my best friend, and the foundation stud to the Hearts On Fire lineage.

He was the consummate hunter, the perfect hunt partner and companion.

You will forever be held closely in my heart and always in my thoughts.

Forever #Guntherstrong!

HEARTS ON FIRE GERMAN SHORTHAIRS are from noted and solid NAVHDA line, Shooting Starr which is in the foundations of many other Navhda kennels. It is a lineage built with such greats as Wendy &  Erick von Enstrand, Baroque Stratavarius, Hillshaven Hustler, Sir Henry, Windrow's Saddle Tramp, Caden's Rowdy Rudy, Essergreif's Shooting Starr, just to name a few.
I was very fortunate to get both of my Dams, Shooting Starr's Venus De Milo, JH, NA112 Pz 1 (V)  and Shooting Starr's Drops of Jupiter, NA Pz III (JUJU), from Jim "DOC" Rieser  in Wisconsin.  The Shooting Starr lineage is a 50 year old lineage developed by Doc who was an accomplished veterinarian. I am reviving his lineage in honor of his stellar breeding program by working with others that have the same passion for these superior hunters and dedicated companions. My foundation male was Feather Hill Gadget's Hearts On Fire Gunther, JH, NA 112 Pz 1, UT 204, Pz 1.  He too was a Shooting Starr amazing boy with an outcross mixed in from Feather Hill's Kennel, Marengo IN.
This lineage is full of natural ability, intelligence, drive and are delightful companion dogs fitting right in to the family.  Even though they are easily trainable, they are problem solver who think through a situation  and solve it on their own.  I continue to carry this lineage on and breed dogs that are not machines but that are dogs that work as a team with their handler in the field which makes for a very rewarding hunt.  They are versatile and enjoy the hunt  whether it is upland, woodland, or the wetlands. They are charged to find whatever quarry you are out to hunt. The bottom line, my dogs are enthusiastically willing and very capable of hunting whatever game they have been trained to hunt, You need to be smarter than one of these awesome dogs to be their hunt buddies. You will have the ride of your life and maybe even the one dog of your life with a Hearts On Fire Shorthair that will leave a smile on your face after every encounter in the field.
I have had a relationship with German Shorthairs for over 40 years.  My first ones came from the original German imports of Arrak Von Heisterholz and Gretchen von Grief.  The first time I took that offspring into the field, I was 18 and could not have been more impressed. Without any training, when he first went on point at a great distance, I walked up and there he was on a hard point and quail were weaving a path in and around his legs. He NEVER broke point until I flushed the birds and shots were fired. .I WAS SOLD ON THE GSP the and that was decades ago and I am still just as fired up today about them if not more.
